AUSTIN - Texas State senior Liudmila Litvinova clocked a time of 52.77 to capture first place in the 400 meter dash as the Bobcats competed Saturday at the Texas Twilight. Litvinova's time was the second best in Texas State history only to Inez Turner's 52.27 record time in 1994.

Luidmila's time also surpassed the NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 54.61.

Texas State had six other student-athletes register regional-qualifying marks. All had already had their tickets punched to the regionals to be held next month in Des Moines, Iowa. The `Cats are back in action in two weeks at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championship in Nacogdoches.

Bobcat senior Abby Ruston swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a mark of 50.78 meters and capturing first in the shot put with a throw of 16.62 meters. Both marks were regional qualifying marks. The Bobcats swept the top three finishes in the discus. Katy Hanie (49.54 meters) and Jiovanna Martinez (47.90m) rounded out the top three of the event and both had regional-qualifying marks.

Robert Melin was second in the men's discus with a regional-qualifying mark of 53.19 while teammate Kemuel Morales, competing unattached, won the shot put with a mark of 16.96 meters.

Also, Valerie Hancock equaled her season high to place second in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.75 meters. Her height equaled the regional-qualifying minimum standard.

In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Liat Anav clocked a time of 1:02.15 to capture first place in her heat and the meet. She outpaced teammate Anna Bokeria who finished in a time of 1:04.00.

 

 

In the 400 men's 400 meter hurdles, Chad Menefee continues to look for a regional-qualifying time after posting a second place finish at the Texas Twilight in a time of 53.09. The regional mark for the men in the event is 52.51.

Casey DeWitt won the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:01.86. The regional mark is 10:50.25.
