SAN MARCOS - Texas State's Katy Haine and Jiovanna Martinez both registered NCAA Regional qualifying marks in the women's discus event during the team's first competition of the season, the Bobcat Open held Friday in Bobcat Stadium.

Haine won the discus with a throw of 48.85 meters while Martinez registered a throw of 48.67 meters.

Texas State tallied 14 individual champions during the meet.

The Bobcats swept the top three finishes in the 100 meters with Camilla Davis winning the event in a time of 12.06. Iris Darrington placed second in the 100 meters and won the 200 meters in a time of 24.47. Valerie Hancock won the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters.

Jenna Evans and teammate Rebekah Vickers, who was competing as an unattached athlete, tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.30 meters. Tamequa Poole won the triple jump with a mark of 11.78 meters.

In the men's 400 meters, Erroll Harris clocked a time of 48.76 to cross the tape just ahead of teammate Justin Longoria (48.95). Chad Menefee won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 52.84, just shy of the NCAA Regional-qualifying mark of 52.51.

Texas State's Casey Cummings and Paul Turner, along with unattached competitor Eric Williams, tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.70 meters.

Jonathan Williams swept the long jump and triple jump events. He won the long jump with a mark of 6.23 meters while winning the triple jump with a mark of 13.95 meters. Also, David L. Hernandez won the hammer throw with a distance of 45.17 meters.

 

 

The Bobcat women also won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:53.35 while the men swept the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.

Texas State returns to action next Friday at the UTSA Relays.
