With growth throughout the University in numerous ways, Texas State University-San Marcos will also grow with students, employees, alumni, and friends of the University purchasing and producing merchandise bearing the University's name and logo. Although we welcome opportunities for licensing, the proper channels must be taken.

Texas State University is licensed under The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), the nation's leading collegiate trademark licensing and marketing company, assisting collegiate institutions in protecting, managing and developing their brands. To ensure the public properly identifies and uses Texas State University's name and logos, all licensing must be approved.

The object of licensing is to protect and promote the use of the Texas State University-San Marcos name, logos, and trademarks and to ensure that the public can properly identify and associate the logos and trademarks with officially licensed products bearing the institutions' marks.

A trademark is simply a symbol or word used by a manufacturer or organization to identify its goods or services and distinguishes them from its competitors. A trademark conveys to consumers the desirability of the product bearing the mark and helps to promote the goods it is identified with.

This site is designed for those who wish to license a product and learn more licensing process and the use of Texas State University-San Marcos trademarks. It will explain the licensing process, while providing general information about the Texas State University-San Marcos licensing program.

Licensees and the purchase of licensed products make a valuable contribution to Texas State Univeristy-San Marcos Consequently; the purchase of products licensed by the University provides funds that support the activities and mission of the University. Conversely, the sale of a product with an unlicensed mark is an infringement of the Texas State University-San Marcos System's valuable trademark rights and diminishes the universities' ability to accomplish their goals.
