3. Who must be licensed?
Any individual, organization or company wishing to use the name or identifying marks of Texas State University must obtain a license. This includes manufacturers or service providers who use Texas State University's name or logo on products or in advertising.
4. What kind of products may be licensed?
Most products must be considered for licensing. However, the University reserves the right to decline licensing of specific products.
5. If I am a student or from a department of Texas State University-San Marcos, do I need to ask permission to use a trademark?
Yes, it is important for the University to protect the trademarks and controlling their use will maintain their value. Fill out the Student and Internal request form found here: H:\Licensing.

7. Is there a fee to become licensed?
Yes. There is an advance fee and a royalty rate based upon the total gross invoice amounts billed ("Net Sales.").
8. Are any requests exempt from royalties?
Generally, items are subject to royalties. However each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
9. How long do requests usually take to process?
Obtaining a license through CLC for one of its member institutions is a process that will require a great deal of thought, research, and commitment. With more than 2,500 companies already licensed to produce a wide range of products, only those companies that can exhibit a commitment to the collegiate market, have established production and distribution capabilities, and/or offer a new or unique product will be granted the opportunity to obtain a license.

The licensing process can vary in length, based on the licensees' responsiveness in meeting CLC and each institution's policies and requests throughout the process. Many licensees can complete the application process within two months, while others may take considerably longer depending on how quickly they meet the requirements. The process is divided into three phases.
Phase I: Complete and submit a CLC licensing application.
Phase II: Submit designs and/or samples incorporating the marks of the institution(s); obtain product liability insurance; purchase CLC holograms per the labeling requirements; complete product specification sheets; and complete Authorized Manufacturer's Agreement (if applicable).
Phase III: Execute the CLC Standard Retail Product License Agreement and the CLC Special Agreement regarding Labor Codes of Conduct; provide factory site disclosure, and pay all advance and administrative fees.

Students and Departments associated with Texas State University San Marcos must fill out the internal request form, and once that is received the review process can 2-5 working days. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure compliance with Texas State University-San Marcos policies.
