Texas State Athletics believes in striving for excellence in athletics, academics and giving back to the community.
Throughout the year Bobcat student-athletes, staff and coaches are encouraged to actively participate in the community. Bobcat Athletics has made a strong commitment to giving back to those in need and truly impacting the world in which we live.
Every athletic team participates in various community service activities throughout each year including Heart Walk, Relay for Life, coat drives, food drives, volunteering in local schools and more.
In addition, Texas State Athletics supports the community by being the host site for San Marcos High School athletic events and several special events conducted in the I-35 Corridor.
Bobcat Athletics centers its community relations efforts around three main initiatives:
- Fitness & Wellness - As an athletic program the department features some of the best athletes in collegiate sports who are coached by some of the greatest staff, athletic trainers and strength personnel. The drive and determination it takes to keep their bodies in top physical condition has allowed them to develop skills in the area of fitness and wellness. The department believes in relaying these skills and knowledge to create a healthier community.
- Literacy - One of today's great challenges is the growing trend of illiteracy among children and adults. As a department we have chosen to impact the community by encouraging them to learn to enjoy reading and strive for the highest level of education. This community involvement features college days to give young people a chance to experience college, book drives and reading to youth as local schools.
- Outreach - At one point in everyone's life, we all need help. Outreach and volunteering encourages our staff, coaches and student-athletes to give back by lending a helping hand. The department organizes and participates in food and clothing drives, community clean-ups like Bobcat Build and assists programs like Habitat for Humanity.
Through these programs we hope to build a legacy and culture of giving back and helping the community.
