With our spring semester under way and our students back on campus, our department is very excited about the possibilities the next few months hold for Bobcat Athletics. There are so many great things happening within our athletic department, and I am proud to be able to share with you several newsworthy events that have recently transpired for the Bobcats.
Last week both our softball and baseball teams were chosen by the Southland Conference as pre-season favorites to repeat as conference champions. Both teams have great schedules and are hosting several of the top programs in the country at our beautiful stadiums in San Marcos. Again, we have received a great deal of interest in our season tickets, and expect to sell out the stadiums on several occasions throughout the year.
Last week, our head football coach Brad Wright announced his 2010 signing class, and coach Wright believes this year's class has great potential. At their signing party, it was great to hear the coaches talk about the recruiting process and give updates on each individual signee. I am also happy to report that we extended the contracts over the past few months for several of our head coaches. The job that Brad Wright, Karen Chisum, Doug Davalos, Ty Harrington, and Ricci Woodard have done to provide great leadership in regards to our academic mission and our athletic success is greatly appreciated. I want personally thank them and their staffs for the hard work they do to continue the progress of their programs.
I am hopeful you can join us for some of the spring events we have planned including the Spring Football Game/Scrimmage and Bobcat Bonanza, which are being held together on Saturday, March 20th at Bobcat Stadium. If you are interested in attending the Bobcat Bonanza this year on the Champions Club Level, please contact Chris Park at (512) 245-2114. I also would like to encourage our fans to help us finish the men's and women's basketball season strongly. Since the return of our students on campus this semester, we have seen some of the best crowds in recent history for our teams. Come out to a game and join in the fun! We are also welcoming the 1960 Men's Basketball NAIA National Championship Team back to campus on March 6th for their 50-year reunion. Join us for a special presentation during our men's game versus Sam Houston as we recognize the accomplishments of this historic group of players.
Finally, we have updated our Drive website to include projects and goals on which we have recently been working. We are diligently working to remove the track from Bobcat Stadium and continue the expansion plan for the North End Zone Complex. We are also in the beginning stages of a major renovation project at Strahan Coliseum and currently are completing several other important projects. You can view Our Drive Progress here.
Other exciting news not necessarily surrounding bricks and mortar is the fact that Texas State has secured the services of KGBTexas a San Antonio based public relations firm to assist the university with an 18-month public relations campaign that will heavily involve athletics and give this great institution additional regional and national exposure. To go along with this, we recently signed an agreement with Adidas to make them the exclusive outfitter for our entire athletic department. This agreement is a great recruiting tool and exposure point for the department as we will now be associated with a popular athletic brand across all sports.
Also, be on the lookout for information regarding our football season tickets. We expect to start sales no later than March 1st. We are still finalizing this year's schedule and should have everything done soon. We will also have tickets available for the University of Houston game through our box office this year.
Thanks again for your support of Bobcat Athletics! I look forward to seeing everyone at our events!
Go Bobcats!
