Don Coryell begins his fourth year on the Texas State University athletic department staff. Coryell was named the Associate Athletics Director for External Operations in 2004 after working the previous four seasons at his alma mater, Lamar University. At Texas State, Coryell is responsible for the athletic department's marketing and promotional campaigns, ticket operations, facilities, university licensing, sponsorships and community relations. He is also the athletic department administrator for Texas State's soccer, men's basketball and men's and women's golf programs and the Strutters. Coryell, a former standout basketball player at Lamar, began his athletic administration career as a marketing specialist for the Cardinals. He was named Assistant Athletic Director for Development at Lamar in 2001. The Beaumont native was responsible for all external affairs of the department, including fund-raising, marketing, promotions, sponsorships and community relations. Additionally, he served as executive director of the Cardinal Club, the booster group for Lamar Athletics. He successfully headed the Cardinal Club Membership Drive that exceeded its goal of raising $100,000. Prior to returning to his alma mater, Coryell spent one season playing professional basketball in Ireland for the Rullman Flyers. He was a member of the all-star team and headed clinics for students from ages 5-18 at over 40 campuses. A 1998 graduate of Lamar with a bachelor's degree in corporate communication, Coryell was named the team's most valuable player following his senior season. He played two years at Lamar after transferring from Angelina Junior College, where he was a 1996 Academic All-American. |
