SAAC participates in 2nd Annual Canned Food Drive
Nov. 24, 2008 SAN MARCOS - The Texas State University Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) members recently helped those in need by collecting non-perishable food items and donating the proceeds to the San Marcos Food Bank. With a donation of paper bags from H-E-B and the help of the San Marcos community, SAAC was able to collect over 1000 pounds of food which is double the amount of food collected last year. The food items were donated to the food bank just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. "I am really proud of the way our student-athletes took charge of this food drive and put their hearts into it," said SAAC sponsor Laurie Hindson. "In times like these, you want to help everyone in need, but if we can just offer aid to one family, we've succeeded in our efforts." SAAC is a group of Texas State student-athletes who are considered the leaders on their respective teams. The Office of Athletic Academic Services oversees the group that meets monthly to help plan community service events and special programs, as well as serve as a voice of the student-athlete to the Texas State Athletic Department. The group consists of two representatives from each sport. |
